Avcon offers various ADS-B equipment configurations for legacy Learjets. Our Garmin-based solutions integrate seamlessly with existing equipment, providing ADS-B(Out) compliance and options for ADS-B(In) capabilities.

What is ADS-B?

ADS-B was developed as a modern replacement for radar – using satellites to provide near-real-time updates on aircraft position, heading, speed, and altitude, both to pilots and to air-traffic controllers on the ground.

ADS-B In the United States

Pending regulations require all aircraft operating above 3000 ft MSL to be equipped with ADS-B – and are expected to leave over 50,000 General Aviation aircraft on the ground, come January 1st 2020.

Avcon works with all its customers to provide the best ADS-B solutions. Our engineers can design a modification for ADS-B equipment in your aircraft and file for STC approval, or get a one-time-use STC installation license from another avionics shop (if an applicable STC already exists).

Reduced Vertical Separation Minimums (RVSM)

RVSM equipment reduces minimum vertical separation from 2,000 ft to 1,000 ft, between FL290 and FL410. RVSM equipment is required to fly at those altitudes, and can be retrofitted to unequipped aircraft to provide additional flight path options and flexibility.

Seamless Interfacing. State-Of-The-Art Components.

Avcon’s RVSM modification installs reliable, state-of-the-art components that integrate into an easy-to-read panel layout. Your existing autopilot computer may be inspected and, if necessary, repaired by an outside vendor. All components are installed with new wiring and plumbing.

The installation includes Rosemount Pitot/Static Probes, altimeters, and associated equipment, changing the existing air data sensor interface to your autopilot and flight director systems. The second-generation Kollsman ADC’s will interface seamlessly with Universal, Sandel, and other high-quality glass cockpit displays.

Sandel Avionics Equipment:

Sandel Avionics, Inc. is a provider of compact avionics displays and equipment. Avcon Industries installs Sandel Electronic Horizontal Situation Indicators (EHSI) and Electronic Attitude Direction Indicators (EADI) in Learjet 20 and 30 series aircraft.


The following equipment is installed, per ST01842SE:

  • 2x Sandel 4500 EHSI
  • 2x Sandel 4550 EADI

The Avcon STC modernizes the cockpit, providing a full color moving map and display of ADF, Radar Altimeter, TCAS, and DME. Additionally, the NAV equipment interfaces with the jet’s autopilot and flight director.

Autopilot Board Upgrades for Learjets

Avcon provides Autopilot Board Upgrades for Legacy Learjets. Combined with other avionics retrofits – such as ADS-B and RVSM – Avcon modifications may prolong the useful lifespan of the 20 and 30 series for another 30 to 40 years.

Originally purchasing the rights to the JET autopilot product line for legacy Learjets in 2008, Avcon continues to service the classic light business aircraft.
